I’m here to provide compassionate healthcare tailored to your unique needs.
Lemar Huot, LiCSW
I was once asked if I became a social worker because I wanted to save the world. “Yes, one person at a time!” I jokingly replied. While there is no truth to that, I do believe in the power of therapy for healing. I believe that all individuals can strengthen their coping skills to improve their quality of life. Whether you are struggling with work stress, family conflict, relationship issues, or school problems, my hope is to be alongside you. You are the expert of your life – I am here as a guide for support. I can be someone who challenges you to grow while remaining in tune to your needs and preferences.
There’s experiential knowledge, which is what you learn from your life experiences through intentional observation and reflection. Whereas propositional knowledge is what you learn formally, through books and articles in school. And then procedural knowledge comes from using what you’ve learned by putting it into practice. My work is a balance of all three.
My experiential knowledge is rooted in my upbringing as a second-generation Asian-American, growing up in a community of refugee immigrants struggling with complex mental health needs. In college, I majored in psychology and pre-med before pursuing my masters in social work. That provided me with the propositional knowledge of human behavior and clinical interventions. My procedural knowledge comes from 20 plus years of working in the field, now specializing in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD -trauma, history of abuse and/or violence, inter-generational trauma), ADHD, racial identity development, and mood disorders (anxiety and depression). By balancing all of these sources of knowledge, I adopt a unique perspective that allows me to embrace a person-centered, culturally grounded approach.
